█ // 004.3 — LASER DENTISTRY
PHOTON.
NOT METAL.
// 01 — THE PROTOCOL
A photon, not a drill.
Laser dentistry is not a tool. It is a different philosophy of care. Where the conventional drill uses friction, heat, and vibration to remove decay — a sequence the body interprets as assault — a laser delivers a single, focused wavelength of light that interacts with water, hemoglobin, or pigment in a target tissue. No contact. No pressure. No scream-inducing whine.
The word LASER — Light Amplification by Stimulated Emission of Radiation — sounds clinical. The reality is closer to music. Each wavelength is a different instrument. Some cut enamel. Some seal gums. Some biostimulate mitochondria to heal faster. The clinic keeps eight of them in rotation, and Dr. Mohitaa chooses one like a conductor chooses a bow.
“The drill is a hammer. The laser is a scalpel. The body knows the difference — even when the mind doesn’t.”
For the patient, the difference is felt before it is understood. The room is quieter. The chair is calmer. There is no spray, no vibration, no numb face for three hours afterward. There is a soft hiss — like a distant radio tuning between stations — and the soft, faintly sweet smell of vaporized water. That is what healing sounds like.
At Growing Smiles, we don’t use the laser because it is new. We use it because it is quietly, measurably better — less trauma, less anesthesia, less post-op pain, faster healing. The future of dentistry isn’t louder. It’s brighter.

FREQUENTLY ASKED.
In most cases, no. The laser seals nerve endings as it works and reduces the need for anesthesia entirely. Patients routinely report less discomfort during AND after laser procedures compared to the drill.
Safer than the drill. The laser is quieter, less invasive, and often eliminates the need for numbing injections. We use pediatric-calibrated settings and protective eyewear sized for children.
Roughly 10–20% more than conventional treatment, depending on the procedure. Most patients find the trade-off — no needle, no drill, faster healing — easily justifies the premium.
No — and we won’t pretend otherwise. Some procedures (like complex crowns or full-mouth reconstruction) still benefit from conventional tools. We’ll always recommend what’s best for YOUR case, not what shines brightest.
Roughly half the time of conventional surgery. Laser incisions are precise, sterile, and cause minimal collateral damage to surrounding tissue — meaning less swelling, less bleeding, and faster recovery.
Totally valid. We’ll show you the machine. We’ll let you hear it. We’ll demo on a model tooth first. The laser is, in our experience, dramatically less anxiety-provoking than the drill — but we go at your pace, always.
